MICHAEL NESMITH

デビュー前のマイクは6枚のシングルを残している。

グループ解散後、もっとも精力的だったのがマイクで、ナショナルバンドも含めて多くのオリジナル・アルバムを発表。モンキーズ在籍中にも”The Wichita Train Whistle Sings”というオーケストラ・アルバムも発表している。

Mike & Tony Curson Terrace C.H. Whitman   子どもたちの遊ぶ声をフィーチャしたインスト。この聞き覚えのあるギターのフレーズは、まさしくモンキーズのデビュー曲"Last Train to Clarksville"。このシングルの発売日が'65だとすればオリジナルはこっちということに⁉　でもやはり'67に新たにこの大ヒット曲のフレーズを入れて新録したという説が有力でしょうか。マイク自身、クレジットのトニーとは誰のことなのか覚えがないとのことです。

'66-4 RCA 47-8807 The New Society ((I Prithee) Do Not Ask For Love)   このグループのメンバーだったマイケル・マーフィのオリジナル作品です。モンキーズでもおなじみのこの曲ですが、マイクは参加していません。このシングルで重要なのは、B面のボーカルにマイクが参加していることです。
Buttermilk Randy Sparks   実はリリースされる2年前の1964年に、マイクとビル・チャドウィック等が録音していた作品です。元気のいいカントリー・ソングで、マイクも若々しいボーカルを聞かせます。

マイクがモンキーズ在籍時に発表したインストゥルメンタル・アルバム。アイドル・グループのメンバーがオーケストラを従えてインストゥルメンタル・アルバムを発表するなんて、今も昔も考えられないことですよね。しかもビルボードの144位にランクされました。初版（写真左）はジャケットの真ん中がくり抜かれた特殊ジャケット仕様。アルバム・ジャケットには演奏者のクレジットがなく、そのことを悔いたマイクは、パシフィック・アーツから再販（中央）した時は、ジャケット裏にびっしりと演奏者のラインナップを掲載しています。写真右は日本盤です。
