Paul Jacoulet was the artist who passed prewar days and the postwar period in Japan. He is good at drawing a watercolor painting, and is extolled as "the last Ukiyo-e painter" by Tadashi Iizawa.He was born in France Paris on January 23, 1896, and visited Japan with mother in 1900. His father was teaching French and German at University of Foreign Language in Tokyo.
He visited Taiwan, Micronesia, Papua New Guinea, and Australia. And he died in Karuizawa which is the summer resort in Japan in 1960, after leaving the watercolor painting and the line drawing of 166 prints (the many are portraits).
