Experience of
male breast cancer patients

I received male breast cancer announcement (stage IIIB)in September 2005

I wish to help early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment of male breast cancer patients and I will report my main experience.

<Progress of receiving notifications>

1. 2000 - 2002. At first, three to five years ago, I found something similar to a small tumor that did not hurt in the left breast.

2. 2003 - 2004. From 1 to 2 years ago, I found a dent in my nipple with my wife. But I forgot about that dent because I was busy every day.

3. 2004/10. I sometimes had a pain in the deep part of my left nipple.
However, the next morning I felt no pain and I felt good.
For that reason I forgot the pain.

4. It hurt me as a car safety belt pushed my breasts while driving a highway for a long time.
In order to protect the breasts, a safety belt was clamped on the belt of my pants and the direction of the safety belt of the car was changed.
The next morning I came home, I was refreshing as usual.
For that reason I forgot the pain during driving.
Twenty days before the breast cancer announcement date (September 2005), I censured a cancer patient who was hospitalized in a neighborhood hospital.
Suddenly in my car on my way home I suspected my breasts at the age of 68 are being infected with cancer. I returned home and immediately searched by HP.

5. The article of male breast cancer was described in Bio-Today.
Immediately Friday night, I diagnosed at nearby general hospital surgery.
On Monday I inspected with mammography, ultrasound.
On Tuesday I was diagnosed as being close to breast cancer.
On Wednesday I was told to take medical examination at the university hospital mammary gland surgery with an introduction letter given.

<Treatment>

6. After re-examining at the university hospital, I received explanation of breast cancer announcement and treatment method from my doctor with my wife. After coming home, my wife regretted that I should have consulted earlier and cried hard.
After that, I took part in "World Heritage / Shiretoko Pack Travel" which requires 3 days and 2 nights, avoiding the examination date for surgery.
Salmon jumped over a small shallow river and I was deeply impressed to see the salmon looking for places to lay eggs. I decided to live positive.
I will be hospitalized in early November. Because I had cancer of the papilla, I resected the left breast and treated with chemotherapy (CEF, taxol), hormonal therapy (tamoxifen). Four injections of CEF and 12 injections of taxol were given. I am a side effect of Taxol, and the ends of my hands and feet are a little numb. Tamoxifen was taken for 5 years.

7. Because we did not know the existence of male breast cancer patients, I had surgery 10 months after I felt pain in my left breast. At that time, I was 68 years old.

<Living environment like eating habits>

8. Status before surgery
More than ten years ago, I drank a lot of alcohol on my way back from work and I was under stress from work. My body was obese.
I aimed at weight loss and divergence of stress. For that, I went fishing in the sea and the valley river. Also, I aimed to climb the famous 100 mountains in Japan.
Also, when I climbed a nearby low mountain, I picked up a large amount of bracken at the Warabi Pass and ate a lot of amounts. However, I suspected that it contained cancerous substances, I stopped eating.
Also, because I have high blood pressure, I have been taking an antihypertensive drug 5 years ago.

9. Status after surgery
In December 2005, when I was intravenously injected with the first anticancer drug (CEF).
After 1 week, the systolic blood pressure dropped to 100, I immediately stopped taking antihypertensive medicine.
After that, I switched to a vegetable-based meal, so I lost weight and returned to normal blood pressure. I quit taking antihypertensive medicine.

Every morning I made blood pressure measurements and tried to maintain standard blood pressure. I refrained from salting the food and reduced drinking.
I sometimes boiled chicken with a black mushrooms (Maitake) and ate.
When it was fine, I enjoyed making vegetables while paying attention to the occurrence of lymphedema.

March - June 2006
I was injected twelve times with anticancer drug (Taxol). I got numbness in the tip of my hands and feet.

July 2006 - June 2011
I have received 5 years of hormone (Tamoxien) therapy. However, I felt that my physical strength was gradually lost.

I also joined the cancer cancer patient association, chatted, I upgraded my immunity, and got the latest cancer information.

Also, I started practicing 24 types of Tai Chi.
However, I have been discontinued since February 2010 because I get tired.

We also joined "Walking Association" from 2007 to 2010. We asked for sights and walked over 20,000 steps.

I appreciate every day that I live with cancer quieting somewhere in my body. Thanks! Thanks! I worked in the field when it was sunny, and when I was raining I read a book at home.

10. On July 7, 2011, my 5 year hormonal therapy was completed.
There is no recurrence after 5 years and 6 months from breast cancer surgery. I am glad with my wife that my treatment is successful.
